How To Choose Skirting Line

Dec 21, 2020

There are so many kinds of skirting on the market, how to choose?

Choosing the right skirting line will not only make the room look more beautiful, but it will also make living in the future more comfortable.

Then first is the color selection. The color of the skirting line can be selected according to the overall color of the room, the color of the door frame, and the floor. As long as it is harmonious and unobtrusive with the indoor colors, there will be no problem.

There are 3 principles for skirting color matching:

First, the same color as the wall is to make the wall look more unified and harmonious. Second, the same color as the ground makes the extension of the ground stronger. Third, the same color as the door frame makes the whole space more connected.12

The skirting can be narrow but not wide, and thin but not thick. Narrow and thin skirting will make the overall layout more exquisite and beautiful; and the narrower the frame, the more it can stretch the layer height, otherwise, it will appear shorter. Abandon the heavy skirting, the short and sharp shape can highlight the texture of the space.4

Secondly, there are different types of skirting materials, common wood, metal, stone, PVC and so on. These types also have their own advantages and disadvantages.

One, wooden skirting. Wood skirting is divided into solid wood and density board. Among them, the wooden baseboard made of solid wood is relatively rare. Although the effect is good, the cost is high, and considering the possibility of arching in the future, the wood baseboard made of MDF is more commonly used for decoration. .

Second, PVC skirting. As a substitute for wooden skirting, PVC skirting is not only similar in appearance to wooden skirting, but also inexpensive. But the disadvantage is that the skin layer on the surface is easy to fall off and affect the appearance, and there is no wooden skirting in the visual effect, which has a natural texture.3

Third, the stone skirting. Most of the baseboards of this kind of material are more durable, but like the stainless steel baseboards, the scope of application is small, and it is only suitable for the rooms where the walls and floors also use stone or ceramic tiles.

Fourth, metal skirting. Generally, the metal skirting line is empty. The disadvantage is that if it receives a lot of external force, it will easily cause the skirting line to deform, and it is difficult to restore. The advantage is that the wires of the additional electrical appliances can be placed in the skirting. Inside the line, it becomes a dark line directly.11

The skirting can be selected and matched according to the material of the floor, such as floor tiles, and the skirting line can be selected from floor tiles and stainless steel. If it is a solid wood floor, the skirting line will undoubtedly be of solid wood. If it is a marble floor, baseboards made of marble and stainless steel should be used.6
